Choosing the right product requires some knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of each.

The most widely used coatings for RV Roof Leaks Repair are Acrylic elastomeric products. These are easy to use, have good weather ability and cure quickly in warm weather. The weakness of these products, however, comes from the fact that they are water-based emulsions which make them vulnerable to sudden showers or freezing temperatures soon after application, and they have inherently poor resistance to ponding water. Another drawback for the Acrylic products is that they do not work over single ply EPDM membranes.

Liquid Rubber On Your Roof Solution For Problems

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> Although this procedure results in a weaker roof structure, water-tightness can be achieved if the application is performed carefully. The joint between sheets should be positioned directly over a roof truss and securely fastened to prevent warping. Next, to seal the pores, coat plywood with oil based primer. Allow an overnight cure. Seal the joint by bridging it with a 6" wide polyester fabric strip. Apply a light coat of EPDM rubber over the joint, lay fabric into wet rubber and smooth out wrinkles. Complete job by applying a liberal coat of Liquid Rubber over entire roof surface, being especially careful to completely cover the fabric over the joint without skips or pinholes. Using an oil base primer on the wood considerably improves the appearance of a one-coat application of Liquid Rubber.

Liquid Rubber is excellent for Wood Surfaces Repair Product; Liquid Rubber can be applied to wood. We recommend first applying a primer coat using an oil base primer and then the Liquid Rubber after the primer has dried. Liquid Rubber can be colored using "universal" colorants available at any paint store. You can add up to one cup per gallon of paint thinner for easier handling when going over wood. Liquid Rubber is slippery when there is only a fine mist of water on its surface. Silicone and oil-based materials are considered unstable and should be avoided.

One stop solution for your all roof repair needs

Anyone who has ever had to undergo roof repair knows how stressful that can be. For holes that are bigger than one inch in diameter, it is usually best to use a piece of aluminum sheeting to cover it with. To do this, you need to cut out a piece of the sheeting that is larger than the hole in the roof. Make sure you have plenty of bearing so that you can cover the hole completely. Secure the aluminum sheet to the roof, over the hole, with self taping screws that can be driven straight into the roof. Then, to seal the sheet so it’s watertight, use a putty tape around the edges or some kind of non-hardening putty, making sure there are no gaps left at the edges of the sheet at all.

Smaller sized holes can be fixed more easily, using a sticky aluminum tape, for example Peel N Seal repairing tape. Simply clear all debris away from the hole, clean the surface where you are going to stick the tape, and finally seal the hole, making sure the tape is stuck down very firmly and there are no gaps visible.

If you do not carry out regular maintenance on your mobile home roof, you are running a huge risk. If left too late, then repairing the roof of your mobile home or RV trailer can cost upwards of several thousand dollars and all because you failed to spot a small leak in time.
Preventative Roof maintenance can save you an awful lot of money in the long run, it’s easy to perform, and very inexpensive. You don’t even need to have any real skills to do it. Mobile homes need care and attention just as much as our real homes do. If you love your mobile home and take care of it, then your mobile home will take good care of you.

Roof and Ceiling Inspection

One of the most destructive problems that are faced by mobile home owners is that of leaky roofs. If it goes unnoticed, then the leak and damage will slowly spread through to other parts of your mobile home, including possibly its walls and floor structure, causing severe damage.

Therefore, it is vitally important that owners carry out regular inspections of their mobile home roofs. A regular inspection means 4 or 5 times a year, or even more if you can. One of the reasons you need to inspect it so often is that, especially in the case of someone who doesn’t live permanently in their RV Trailer, there might not be anyone around to notice the roof leaking for quite some time, by which time the ceiling may already be stained and irreparable damage caused.

A thorough inspection of an RV trailer roof is not a five minute job. Be prepared to invest some time carefully checking your roof so that you don’t miss anything. Any roof inspection should include such necessities as checking inside the mobile home as well. Be sure to inspect the walls on the inside where the roof sheets are connected to the edges of these walls. This might mean you have to open closets and cabinets in order to properly check every part. The thing you are looking for during these checks is any sign of dampness or water damage to the walls and/or fittings in the home.

Ceiling discoloration or staining might well be an indication that there is a Roof leakage somewhere on the roof. Check the discoloration carefully. If it is only slight, then the leak is unlikely to be a major one and can probably be fixed with by simply applying a sealant. If the discoloration is particularly bad though, or if you can see any rotten or mildewed wood, then this is a sure sign of a serious leak, and the need for major repairs is likely.

During your inspections, make sure that you check the top of your mobile home to learn the locations of all the air vents, air conditioning vents and anything else that will require waterproofing. All of these points are common sources of leaks in a mobile home roof. All of these items should be checked both inside and outside for any signs of leakages.

Most mobile home roofs make use of vinyl strips, to waterproof the screws in the roof. Be warned that these vinyl strips do not last forever and will need replacing after a few years. Eventually, they will come unstuck and fall from their retaining grooves. You can buy replacement vinyl strips at most mobile home camp sites, as well as many garages and dealerships. Leaks from these screws can be almost undetectable and so it’s advisable to replace all of the strips on a roof completely after 5 years, even if they look fine.

Another common leakage that is difficult to find is leaks that are close to the running lights. The lights are sealed with a rubber gasket that fixes it to the body of the mobile home. These areas have to be checked very carefully, as the rubber gasket can wear out after some time. If you notice a leak here, you can either buy a replacement gasket, or perhaps more conveniently, seal the leakage with a silicone caulk. If undetected, a leak here could cause some serious deterioration to the walls and floor of your mobile home.

Details: Can be found at:

http://www.epdmcoatings.com/rv_roof_repair.html
http://www.maineepdmcoatings.info

Increase the Age of Your Pond with EPDM Coatings

Leaks are an eventuality waiting to happen in and around a pond/fish pond. Many months of wet weather and/or storing your RV in a poorly ventilated garage can necessitate a bit of running RV roof leaks repair, and the good news is that unless the damage is widespread or severe, you should be able to do this kind of RV roof leaks repair yourself. It's especially useful if you have a few tools and a friend who can help you with the lifting which is almost inevitable in RV roof leaks repair.

Things to Consider
When you have to make an RV roof repair you first of all have to think about how big an area is damaged. If you can see water damage inside your RV roof repairs are necessary right now, but ideally you will check the outside of the RV Roof to avoid that urgency.

How to do DIY RV Roof Leaks Repair
First you need to take off all the fixtures and edge moldings from the RV roof like air conditioning and plumbing vents and a heat gun may be of help with this as you my need to make the roof coating softer for easier removal of these fixtures. Then you should be able to get at the staples holding on the RV roof and remove those. Once the roof is off you will be able to see the RV roof insulation; get rid of it if it's at all wet.

This is where DIY RV roof leaks repair get a little more complicated, because now you'll see where all the wires go. You'll of course need to replace all the wires in the right places of RV Roof, but they are color coded. Better still - get your digital camera out and take a photo. Only then should you remove any lights or electrical fittings.

Ready for RV Roof Repair
Now you've stripped out your RV roof repairs are made easier. If the damaged area is small you should be able to cut out the damaged piece. The roof should be screwed down so easily removed in panels. Of course, you should make sure any panels you replace are again well secured to the RV framework. Cover any joints with battens that slide in, so the roof is again weather-proof and strong. Remember to cut the holes needed for any roof vents before you do this though!

Then your RV roof leaks repair is almost done. You need to re-install the wiring of RV Roof and insulation and make sure the RV roof is completely secured to the side walls but you'll then be home - and dry - with your RV roof leaks repair.

Uses Of Liquid Rubber

• Metal - Coated or Galvanized Steel Weathered Aluminum
• Weathered Copper
• EPDM Rubber membrane
• Concrete (except foot traffic surfaces)
• Urethane Foam
• Primed Wood
• Fiberglass EPDM lined fish ponds
• PVC Sheet and Pipe
• Acrylic Sheet
• Sponge Rubber insulation
• EPDM Rubber Membrane on flat or sloped Roofs
• Weathered Steel Siding
• Weathered Fiberglass
• Weathered standing seam and corrugated metal roofs
• Weathered Vinyl, PVC and Polycarbonate plastic
• Foam insulation for pipe
• Cast Concrete foundations

Liquid Rubber is a unique product that has a successful track record in the world market for over 20 years. It has elastic properties, and can stretch in the summer time heat and then return to their original shape without damage.
Elastomeric coatings usually contain polymeric materials, such as acrylic, and a white pigment, such as titanium dioxide, to make them opaque and reflective. An elastomeric coating is applied thicker than paint. An elastomeric coating can be used on virtually any substrate including asphalt built-up roofing, concrete roofing, metal roofing, modified bitumen roofing, polyurethane foam roofing and single ply roofing.

Liquid Roof and Liquid Rubber need temperatures above 55 degrees to cure. The temps can go below 55 but the product will not begin curing again until the temp's go above 55 degrees.

Chemical Resistance-Cured EPDM rubber is resistant to acids, alkalis and polar solvents Cure system-Two-component Peroxide initiated Heat Resistance 302 degrees F (150 degrees C)

Physical Properties:
The physical properties of Liquid EPDM Liquid Rubber(R) are typical of its EPDM chemistry. The outstanding characteristics include:

1. Extreme high resistance to penetration of water, Ultra Violet and Ozone stable, excellent long term aging properties.
2. Very broad temperature tolerance range (from 300 degrees F to minus 62 degrees F). Acid and alkali resistant Withstands ponding water even when not cured

Spreading Rate:
A 20 mil dry film will result when liquid is applied at the rate of 42 sq. ft per gallon on a smooth surface.
A rate of 45 sq. ft allows for average roughness.
Weight/gallon 8 pounds (mixed)
Tensile 680 psi
Elongation 180-200%
Brittle Point -62 degrees F

Cure Mechanism: This rate is determined by temperature and the availability of oxygen. Oxygen is necessary to activate the catalyst, which promotes peroxide decomposition at lower temperatures. The cure mechanism in EPDM Liquid Rubber will vary from active to inactive determined by temperature. Broad day-night temperature swings in spring and fall will not compromise the final physical properties of the EPDM Liquid Rubber membrane.

Technical Properties of EPDM

Polymer Properties
1. A second coat will bond to a previous film but that bond will not be as strong as the internal bond within each layer. If a second coat is applied before the first has thoroughly cured, some wrinkling may result as the first coat absorbs solvent and swells. This will, however, recover as the solvent evaporates. It is generally recommended that only a single coat be applied over non-porous surfaces, the thickness of which can be varied as desired. Thicker films will take longer to cure through. Asphalt coatings and asphalt built-up roofs are considered unstable substrates and therefore, not recommended for coating directly with Liquid Rubber EPDM. EPDM COATINGS do carry a specific elastomeric which with a two coat application gives you a 10 year warranty.
Liquid Rubber is designed to recoat structurally sound existing roof and protective materials. They are also best for RV Roof Repair. Rubber roofs are durable, energy efficient and environmentally friendly (they are often made of recycled materials). Another advantage of rubber roofs particularly liquid rubber and liquid roof, one that often tilts the scale in their favor, is that they require low maintenance, unlike wooden materials for example. But some differences exist between the two types of rubber roofs, with each having its own advantages. When installing a rubber roof one should take into consideration the two options – a whole roof system or shingles. An entire roof covered with a large rolled rubber roofing piece is ideal for preventing any leakage whatsoever, as they have no seams in them. This may be a slightly more expensive option, but a wise decision for flat roof homeowners especially. Liquid Rubber roof shingles are authentic looking shingles that have all the advantages the rubber material provides, and are even lighter, making it easier to install. Regarding Rubber Roof Repairs The benefits of rubber roofing do not end there, as even if they do require repair some time after installing them, rubber roofs are easy to fix. Especially if rubber roof shingles are involved, but also in the case of a whole roof system, rubber may tear or even fall off. In such a case, the homeowner can easily repair the roof with spare pieces or special tape or liquid that dries into rubber-like material. Such liquid roof sealant can be applied to the entire roof upon installation to prevent any such damage in the long run. Similar conditions can also be produced organically in poultry and hog production operations which generate high volumes of manure. EPDM coatings can protect the steel and other construction materials from rapid deterioration in these environments.

One component Thermoset EPDM Coatings
Non thermoplastic materials, regardless of shape can now be coated with EPDM rubber as a protection against corrosion or chemical attack. The coating can be applied by spray, dip or flowcoat methods and than cured in an oven at temperatures from 250-300 F (120-150 C). These single component products are custom formulated for a specific application, have good storage stability and are very easy to apply. Viscosity and solids content can be controlled and make it possible to apply thin as well as thick coatings of EPDM rubber. For more details visit http://www.buyliquidroof.com/commercial.html
